Well, it’s been 10 weeks since I last stood in front of the CoGWO, and it feels like it’s been a very long 10 weeks. We started our new season’s rehearsal on the 18th August, and I am very excited about some of the plans I have for the band this year.
First of all, I am delighted to welcome some new faces to the band, in a variety of sections, and I know there will be more appearing over the next two or three weeks. I have to ensure that the band remains balanced, but I think that is the case, notwithstanding the perennial problem of the Flutes. (Can anyone tell me why it is that we are struggling to attract Flautists, when it is one of the most common instruments around? Too many other opportunities to play, perhaps? In any case, I shall keep fighting that particular good fight). To all the other new members – I hope you enjoy your time with us, and I hope that time is long and fruitful.
Concert-wise, we already have one definite date in the diary, and hope to be adding some more very soon, and possibly in new venues too, which is always nice!
As for the programme, I issued some new-to-the-band pieces on Friday, and there will be at least one other coming out this coming Friday. In addition, I am always on the lookout for things I can add to the band library, and sometimes, things that will be a new experience for the band. I have a couple of plans in that regard as well, although I am going to remain vague about them until I see if they are do-able.
So, we’ve made a good, if slightly rusty start to the season, and I am confident that there are lots of great things ahead for us in 2017/18.
I hope you enjoy it! 😉
